E3 2014: Xbox One & PS4 franchise games we cant wait to play

Rise of the Tomb Raider & Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Crystal Dynamics announced Rise of the Tomb Raider, the 15th game in a franchise that has sold over 42 million copies and spawned two feature films. A sequel to the 2013 reboot, the trailer to the game starts with Lara Croft undergoing therapy before heading back out to fight enemies with her bow and arrow.

The developer also showcased Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, a follow-up to the Guardian of Light co-op game. For the first time, four players will be able to enter the Tomb Raider universe together. Fellow archaeologist Carter Bell – seemingly named after Howard Carter, who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb – and two Egyptian gods, Horus and Isis, are the other playable characters.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection & Halo 5: Guardians

Tomb Raider wasn’t the only franchise with a two-pronged attack at E3. Microsoft announced Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which will bring together all the multiplayer maps from Halo 1-4 in HD quality, and beta version of the brand-new sequel Halo 5: Guardians. Dedicated servers mean Xbox One owners should suffer little downtime and lag, so online play will be even more appealing.

LittleBigPlanet 3

LittleBigPlanet is a whimsical franchise that stands out against the shooters, RPGs and racers, but it’s enjoyed huge success. This November, the third instalment will be coming to PS4, and Sackboy is joined by new characters OddSock, Swoop and Toggle. LittleBigPlanet 3 players will be able to explore over 8.5 million levels from the gaming community.

Far Cry 4

Announced and teased before the event, Ubisoft finally lifted the lid on Far Cry 4 at E3, the first of the series to boast a co-op mode. Those with a PlayStation even have the ability to play with PSN friends who don’t own a copy of the game, thanks to the exclusive Keys to Kyrat feature. However, much of the hype has surrounded the inclusion of elephants that, according to this IGN reviewer, can either be attacked or tamed.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Another eagerly anticipated first-person shooter is Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which was showcased by Sledgehammer Games. Set in 2054, the game introduces exciting new weapons and gadgets, including jump-jets that let players and enemies reach new vantage points. Get ready: the game is set for release on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One this November 4th.Did you watch the Sony and Microsoft E3 press conferences?
