Food is what makes us thrive and survive! Some people eat to live, but if you’re one who lives to eat, read on to find some helpful snack ideas for work to make healthy treats for yourself. Make sure you read until the end for a special (and easy) recipe!

Importance of food

It’s a busy day at the office, and suddenly you realise you skipped lunch, and the canteen is closed. What do you do now? To avoid situations like this, it is best to always have some healthy snacks for work.
We need food to fuel our body, and to keep our brain functioning optimally. Snacking on homemade food is a good way to stay full and energised through the day. For instance, nuts are a better alternative than chips if you enjoy a little crunch. In addition to fibre, protein, antioxidants, unsaturated fats, and other vitamins and minerals, they are a powerhouse of heart-healthy fats. Something as simple as plain popcorn is also a delicious inexpensive snack!
If you’re looking for something more creative, consider pairing hummus with carrot, celery, or capsicum pieces. Compared to other dips produced with cream, hummus is made from chickpeas and is a much healthier option.

Boost your productivity

Do you start to feel sluggish and lethargic around 3 pm? The mid-afternoon slump is a real thing! Rather than relying on coffee or a can of soda for the hit of caffeine and sugar to tide you over, choose some fresh fruits and a healthy drink like water or some herbal tea instead. A diet that is high in cholesterol, processed food, and artificial sugar may increase the risk of depression, according to researchers at Manchester Metropolitan University.

You wouldn’t work for peanuts, but maybe you want to include them in your arsenal of workspace snacks! Trail mixes are flavourful and filling, as well as fully customisable if you make them yourself. Pack them full of almonds, peanuts, walnuts, raisins, and cashews for a hearty and healthy treat.

Another viable option is to utilise a blender and make smoothies at home which you can pack for office. Simple to prepare, smoothies will even leave you free to continue working while you drink them. Isn’t that a win-win situation?

*Please note that in case you are vegan, you can swap out honey for maple or agave syrup.

While it is important to maintain a healthy diet, it is equally vital to not go overboard with counting calories. Due to various factors outside our control, it is not always possible to stay on track and be healthy. Cut yourself some slack and enjoy some ice cream when you feel like it!
